Article No. 1 for May 2020

Pursuant to R.A.11469 otherwise known as "Bayanihan to Heal As One Act", the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has released a Memorandum dated March 27, 2020, issuing the authorization of Regional Directors to realign the unutilized funds from the Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) of mining companies to support affected impact and non-impact communities from COVID-19.

A total amount of Php 25,505,442.00 in the form of relief goods, food packs, personal protective equipment, medicines and vitamins, hygiene kits, thermal scanners, vehicle services, fuel and cash donations were donated throughout the first month since issuance of SDMP Fund Realignment started. With mining companies and other MGB associations working together to help those most in need makes a true Filipino bayanihan spirit in action.

With the extension of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until May 15, 2020, MGB together with the mining industry ensures its active participation in further utilizing the rest of its budget allocation to assist various communities and hospitals across the country.

To date, an additional amount of Php 5,514,038.31 in the form of food and service assistance was successfully catered to 92,230 beneficiaries (both household and frontliners) with close coordination to LGUs and strict compliance to Inter-Agency Task Force's (IATF) precautionary measures against COVID-19.

MGBR3 extends its gratitude to the following mining companies for their continued support on the first wave of the second month's accomplishments:

1. BenguetCorp Nickel Mines, Inc.
2. Eramen Minerals, Inc.
3. Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation
4. Eagle Cement Corporation
5. LNL Archipelago Minerals, Inc.
6. Republic Cement and Building Materials – Bulacan Plant
7. Porac Sand & Gravel Association, Inc.
8. Powerzun Quarrying and Trading Inc.

#MineResponsibility is very much alive in the entire mining industry and MGB. In the midst of the pandemic, active participation in helping to secure the welfare of those most affected will surely go a long way with the spirit of bayanihan on hand.
